Mit dem kostenpflichtigen (20 USD) Programm "PhoneView (2.0.1) kann man unter anderem Daten vom Mac auf dem iPhone ablegen, ohne sie allerdings ansehen zu können. Das iPhone wird also zusätzlich als Backup genutzt. Das interessiert mich.

Dennoch: Brauche ich dieses Programm überhaupt? Ich kann doch über AFPd mein iPhone mit dem Mac verbinden und sehe dann auf dem Mac-Bildschirm alle Daten und Ordner des iPhones. Kann ich also nicht auf diesem Weg z. B. einen Dokumenten-Ordner vom Mac auf das iPhone kopieren, um wichtige Mac-Daten zu sichern?

Die Frage ist nur: Wo (auf welcher Ebene) lege ich einen solchen Mac-Daten-Ordner als Backup ab? Riskiere ich einen Absturz des iPhones? Oder liegt der Ordner einfach auf dem iPhone, ohne dass er Schaden anrichten kann? Platz auf dem iPhone hätte ich genug.

PhoneView 2.0.2 Out the Door

Late Wednesday, software outfit Ecamm Network released version 2.0.2 of its iPhone interface software, PhoneView.
Previously known as MegaPhone, PhoneView allows iPhone users full access to the media portion of the phone sans hacks or jailbreaks.
The new version, a 2.1 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes:

-Fixes an issue that could cause Contacts mode not to function.
-Fixes an issue that could cause PhoneView to hang on quit.
-Corrects a problem with the Replace All function when copying items from the device.
-Fixes an issue where some notes may not be copied to the Mac.
-Fixes an issue that prevented SMS and Call History mode from working when the user directory is stored on a remote NFS file system.
-Fixes an issue with exporting album photos that do not have a file name stored on the device.
-Fixes an issue where an error message may not be displayed if saving changes fails.
-Fixes an issue where the Cancel button may not work properly during transfers.
-Other minor fixes and enhancements.

PhoneView 2.0.2 requires an iPhone or iPod Touch, Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later and iTunes 7.3 or later to install and run.
