The 3G iPhone has created a lot of excitement about faster data speeds, but a lot of people are wondering if the new technology
will be significant enough to be worth it. To test how the 3G iPhone might compare to the current model running on EDGE,
Applicando published a speed comparison video between two iPhones, one on EDGE and one on HSDPA.
Of course, they didn't get their hands on a real 3G iPhone, so they got as close as they could by plugging a Huawei E172 HSPDA modem card into an iMac and sharing it with the iPhone over a Wi-Fi network. The other iPhone was simply running on it's standard EDGE network.
The results of the test seemed to be surprisingly conclusive. Check out the video to see what happens:
If this test is any indication of the real 3G iPhone's download speeds, then we're in for a major speed boost.
The iPhone running on the HSDPA network downloaded the web page nearly twice as fast. Good news for those of us planning to switch.
