Today Apple officially released the latest version of iTunes (8.2). Anyone who is familiar with jailbreaking should be well aware that now is a time to wonder, will the cat and mouse game continue? It seems like it has but @MuscleNerd claims it is unintentional on Apple’s part.

Today’s iTunes 8.2 update changes the way your computer talks to the device. This affects things like QuickPwn and PwnageTool when they try to identify what’s connected. Also, ssh over usb breaks due to same reasons. Fixes are in the works but for now avoid 8.2

So if you are planning on jailbreaking anytime in the near future, be sure to avoid this latest version of iTunes until the fix is made available to the public.

Yesterday, Apple started pushing out their official iTunes 8.2, which supports mobile devices at firmware 3.0. Here’s why you jailbreakers and yellowsn0w-users shouldn’t really accept that “Update now?” question:

* Most of you aren’t at 3.0. In fact 3.0 is still in beta and has lots of bugs (especially related to push updates).
* It breaks your ability to use QuickPwn, PwnageTool, and iPhone Tunneling Suite (ssh over usb). We don’t think this is a deliberate breakage of these tools. It’s just that Apple has updated a low-level USB protocol that normally only Apple cares about (but jailbreakers care about).
* So far, the only appreciable change to iTunes 8.2 is the Genius function working on videos.
* It may actually break Palm Pre’s connection to the device (please give us feedback on this).

This update is one of those that incidentally breaks QuickPwn and PwnageTool. It doesn’t seem like an anti-jailbreak. But nonetheless, it will break your ability to re-run QuickPwn or PwnageTool’s dfu-entry.

Because this update isn’t a deliberate anti-jailbreak measure, it’s easily fixed in our tools. But we really don’t want to update our tools until 3.0 is out, so please don’t update to 8.2 if you think you’ll need to rejailbreak your device.

iTunes 8.2 Update == Bad. It will check the hash of newer firmware images, call the mothership when restoring to beta firmwares, have updated MobileDevice so programs like QuickPwn and anything else that uses MD will get messed up, make sure your device has the correct security epoch, chipid, security domain, production mode, board id, bb chip id, etc. They can all be patched, but for now, hold back from updating.

Diesmal war ich zu voreilig...
habe das Update zwar schon installiert, jedoch das Phone noch nicht gesynct.

Bedeutet das, wenn ich jetzt syncen würde, das es den jailbr. raushaut?
Oder aber, wenn man es zum späteren Zeitpunkt jailbr. möchte, das es iTunes nicht mehr zulässt?

und dein Jailbreak ist nach dem Sync nicht weg, sondern der neue "noch" nicht möglich!
