As the buzz of developing interest continues to build, more companies are looking to create apps for the iPhone, many of which are games.
To help them along, Unity Technologies, creators of development tools for 3D games on the computer and web,
has announced plans to port their engine over to the iPhone.
"With iPhone support, Unity is poised to become the single source for game developers who want to create best-of-breed,
3D-quality games that can be easily and quickly ported to all platforms, including consoles, devices, PC/Mac,
and now, the iPhone," said David Helgason, CEO of Unity Technologies.
"Unity’s support of iPhone addresses the developer’s need to create more and better mobile/portable games
that support the consumers ‘on-the-go’ lifestyle," he added.
If this turns out to be true, it could mean some very big things for game development on the iPhone,
especially given the fact that the Unity engine powers several not-so-small names like Freeverse,
Disney and Shockwave.
For those interested, they have launched an iPhone beta program to provide hands-on support for those who are developing 3D games
for the iPhone using their engine. If you're interested, you can contact them at iphone@unity3d.com .
