TUAW has received word that the iPhone will be sold unlocked in Australia. Just yesterday Vodafone announced that it had secured a deal
with Apple to sell the iPhone in Australia and nine other countries. According to TUAW's sources, Vodafone won't be the exclusive carrier and unlocked iPhones will be sold at Apple stores in the AU. Additionally, The Sydney Morning Harold believes that Australian carriers Telstra and Optus will also offer the device.

IDC Telecom analyst Mark Novosel believes that Vodafone's deal with Apple isn't exclusive simply because they haven't said whether it is or not. According to Novosel, "it is likely Vodafone will sell the iPhone at a discount and lock it to its network, in which case Apple would sell an unlocked version - capable of running on any carrier - through its own stores."

Novosel also thinks that when the iPhone does come to Australia, it will likely be of the 3G variety. Said Novosel,
"I would be very surprised if it wasn't the 3G iphone, just given the state of Australia's market".

A specific launch date for the iPhone in Australia has not yet been announced.

Ey, das wär so geil, wenn das Ding dahinten kommt. Ich bin ab 26. Mai DownUnder für 10 Monate und wenn dann das 3G rauskommen sollte und mit einem Vertrag wie bspw in den USA oder GB, dann bin ich der Erste, der vorm Apple-Store steht.
Also, ich werde berichten, was sich da unten so tut und ob da was wahres dran ist.

Nö. Mach ein Jahr Work & Travel:
Bleibe aber nur 10 Monate direkt in Australien. Dann 2 Wochen Fidji Inseln, dann 1 Monat Neuseeland und anschließend nochmal 2-3 Wochen Los Angeles, USA.

Schule hab ich zum Glück hinter mir.
